Aaron Thigpen notches his latest sub-11 in 100-meter dash
At 44, you’re supposed to be cruising. The new age group is less than a year away, and the new M40s are eating your lunch. Not with Aaron Thigpen. Over the weekend at Stanford, Aaron ran a 100 meters in 10.97 seconds. With a legal wind of 0.6 mps. Of course, that’s mediocre in Aaron’s mind, since he ran a legal 10.60 at Mt. SAC two years ago — which never not American record recognition. In any case, Aaron has a few years to go before claiming the title of oldest man to run sub-11. That remarkable achievement belongs to Bill Collins, who ran 10.95 at Baton Rouge in April 2002 — at the age of 51.

Great job Aaron, just what the M45-49 needs, another sprinter next year.
Congrats on the great time Aaron, and it’s early in the season. You are going to make the talented guys in the M45-49 (that’s every guy in M45-49) a lot faster.

Way to go Aaron. You’re an inspiration to the Women as well.
Hard to explain the “10.60 story” to people who are not part of masters T&F. One of the finest masters sprinters of the decade, Aaron Thigpen, ran a legal 10.60 FAT at Mt. SAC Relays in 2007, one of the largest meets in North America, and he can’t even get “pending status.”
When I talk to people who are familiar with track and field but who are not part of the masters program they simply can’t understand how these tremendous marks do not get accepted. They just shake their heads in disbelief.
