M90 world sprint icon Sansonetti stars again in Italian TV ad

M90 sprint god Ugo Sansonetti, who once appeared in a popular Coca-Cola commercial, is back as a TV star in Italy. This time his part promotes a margarine. But a great storytelling commercial depicts him as an old man unappreciated. Then when a baby carriage starts zooming downhill, Ugo zooms after it. Classic.

Ken, you are a wonder! This isn’t actually a new ad, it’s several years old, but it is so good to see it again. I feared I never would. Thanks also for the link to the Coke ad.

I asked Ugo (in jest!) this year whether he does his own stunts. He replied “Of course! Who could they find who is old enough to play me?”

Signore Sansonetti is a truly inspiring athlete, but a lovely gentle man, in the truest senses of the word. Also, to the delight of all who have seen and met him, a great showman. My website has a set of photos of him from the recent Eurovets, of which I am proud, because Ugo’s sort are a rare breed!

Ken and Ugo, you have made my day. Probably my week.

Mary, agreed, though rather than “flattering”, I’d say “honest” or “representative”!

I agree – “representative” strikes me as the correct word.

What age he was when the ad was shot?

Weia, it was new on British TV about five years back, so early 80’s I expect. Ask him next time you see him. Like you, his English is excellent!
