Sally Luxton, 38, was fifth in the 5K at the World Masters Games — one of those runners who made a serious comeback because of the meet in her back yard. She writes: “I haven’t raced on the track for 20 years and have never done a 5000, so it was a new experience for me and, yes, a satisfying one. After three races for the week, I am a bit tired, though. 10K is the max I race over and have only been back training for six months, but amazed at the passion I’m reliving again. I wonder what took me so long to get back to running! So as you can imagine — I’m now a big fan and promoter of masters athletics and running for everyone. I also have a website “ And she wrote a lot about the Sydney meet. Check out her archive.
She originally wrote me to share some links, saying:
As there was only limited coverage of the World Masters Games athletics in the media, I was wondering if you might interested in providing a link on your website to some articles I published online about the athletes and their results. A couple of them have been written to entice more participation in masters athletics.
Strongest age category seems to be 45-49 years.
Masters Athletes still competing at elite levels
Womens 70+ and 80+ Sprint Records and Results
These are just a handful of the articles she posted online but represent some of the best — with a trackcentric bias. She tells about Olympians at the Games. Some celebs I’d never heard of.
So good onya, Sally! And stay in shape.
Consider coming out to Sacramento in 2011!
